Granit
Nero Aswan comes from the granite belt around Aswan, the hard-stone country that supplied ancient Egypt with its obelisks and sanctuaries. Its crystals are small and evenly distributed, so from across a room it reads as a solid black field rather than a pattern — the quality that makes it work at architectural scale where a busier stone would become noise.
The finish changes it more than most buyers expect. Polished, it goes glassy and almost mirror-dark. Flamed or bush hammered, the surface breaks to a softer charcoal with dependable grip underfoot. Brushed sits between the two, holding a low sheen at hand height.
It takes constant wetting, salt and heavy traffic better than any limestone, which is why it belongs on thresholds, kerbs, treads and fountain surrounds as readily as on cladding, counters, reception faces and plinths. Supplied as blocks, slabs and cut to size.
